Phil Soutter

Phil’s a born-and-bred Janner with Plymouth in his DNA. After fifteen years homing his skills in the finance offices of local manufacturing and wholesale firms, he earned his Chartered Certified Accountant qualification in 1987—then hit the ground running at Ernst & Young. By 1990 he had moved on to be a Financial Director at a Plymouth-based IT company, and four years later struck out on his own with a management consultancy practice. In January 1998 he, Sue and William launched Wills Accountants Limited—and the rest is history.

These days, Phil has eased down now that he is officially an OAP, and only officially works 2 days a week but still enjoys guiding clients through the choppy waters of tax, accounting, and growth strategy when he is around.

Off-duty, Phil’s a family man at heart—married, dad to a daughter and thrilled to be granddad to a granddaughter and grandson, although it is an expensive delight at times! A lifelong rugger addict (and one-time player), he supports with a passion both the England and Exeter Chiefs from the stands, he is also an Evergreen with Plymouth Argyle, so also enjoys the round ball sport too. His weekend wind-down? Cycling the lanes around Ivybridge—though his once-glorious running days (incl 1 London Marathon back in 1991) have been side-lined by those famously fickle knees.
